IntroductionOn July 1, 2006, two distinguished Passaic County Law Firms merged to create Hunziker,Jones & Sweeney, P.A., becoming one of the largest law firms in Passaic County. Our law firm can be compared to a tree. With its predecessors, it has existed in Paterson and Passaic County for over l00 years, during which time its lawyers have been community leaders and stalwart participants in various civic and charitable projects, as well as in many family decisions and business and banking enterprises that have formed the pattern of local life. The roots of our firm extend back to the 1890's when Gustav Hunziker and Edward Merrey, two prominent Patersonian attorneys, founded a law practice with their sons, Walter Hunziker and Edward Merrey. Our firm is now led by a third generation lawyer, Walter J. Hunziker, Jr. The firm grew through the years, to include the legal talents of Robert A. Jones, Susan E. Champion and A. James Romer, Jr. Recently, our tree grew broader and stronger with the addition of Michael J. Sweeney, Mary Tom and Scott T. Rumana. The long history of our combined law practices has provided moral strength, client loyalty and longevity, and professional stability to its practice. Our firm's lawyers have spent their adult lives in North Jersey, centering on Paterson and in recent years in Wayne and West Milford. Mr. Hunziker was the founding counsel for Lakeland Bank, extending the firm's banking branch, which had helped lead Alexander Hamilton S&L Association and Franklin Bank to prominence years before. Mr. Jones served as Planning Board Counsel during years of development expansion in West Milford. Ms. Champion has served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Paterson under several administrations. Mr. Romer, in addition to his legal pursuits, is an active member of the Wayne Rotary and Tri-County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Sweeney serves on the Board of Directors for Memorial Day Nursery School, a non-profit organization dedicated to the early education of Paterson's underprivileged toddlers. Ms. Tom is involved with the Passaic County Bar Association, serving as a Trustee and is a member of numerous sections of the Bar Association. Mr. Rumana was the Mayor of the Township of Wayne from 2002 - 2008. He currently serves as a New Jersey Assemblyman for the 40th District. In addition, he was recently elected Chairman of the Passaic County Republican Organization. Mr. Ebright maintained a busy practice in Paterson and Wayne, prior to joining the firm and serve the community as the first staff attorney for the Passaic County Legal Aid Society in its early formative years, as well as a longtime member of its Board of Directors. |
